Get your Ethereum assets onto Optimism to start using web3 with lower fees

MEW Mobile is a free, non-custodial, and open-source web3 mobile wallet built by the MyEtherWallet team. With MEW Mobile, users and developers can generate accounts, manage tokens and NFTs, and interact with DApps on Optimism. Follow the instructions in this guide in order to bridge to Optimism!

Layer 2 solutions and scalability networks like Optimism work with Ethereum, but transferring assets directly from Ethereum to Optimism requires applications called bridges.

Optimism, like Ethereum, uses ETH as its native currency for network fees. However, the gas fees are much lower, and transactions are faster than on the Ethereum mainnet. Initially, you'll need to pay Ethereum fees to bridge your assets to Optimism, but once done, you'll benefit from low-fee transactions.

To trade tokens on Optimism instead of Ethereum, simply bridge your assets to the Optimism network.

Unlock your MEW Mobile and make sure you are on the Ethereum network at the top left.

You can click the top left network dropdown menu to select your network. For this example we will stay on the Ethereum network.

If you have multiple accounts, switch to the account you would like to bridge with then select ‘Swap’ at the bottom navigation bar then select ‘Bridge assets’.

You will get a disclaimer letting you know that Orbiter is a 3rd party DApp. If you agree to the user agreement and privacy policy select ‘Confirm’.

You may get a pop up informing you how to connect your wallet but your wallet should connect automatically. You can click ‘Got it’ or ‘Don’t show this again’ to continue with the bridging process.

Orbiter is a third-party DApp and is not affiliated with MEW in any way. Bridging assets from network to network involves some inherent risk. Please do your research and proceed at your own discretion.

You should see that your wallet is automatically connected to Orbiter.

By selecting the ‘From’ dropdown menu, you can also select which chain you would like to bridge from but we will leave it on Ethereum for this example.

Selecting the ‘To’ dropdown menu will display the available chains you can bridge to. We will change it to Optimism.

You can click the ‘Token’ dropdown menu to select which token you would like to bridge to Optimism. We will use ETH for this example.

Enter the amount you would like to bridge over to Optimism then select ‘Bridge’.

Select the amount you want to spend for the gas fee on the MEW Mobile pop up then confirm the transaction by selecting ‘Confirm’.

You should see that the transaction is now processing.

There will be a pop up stating ‘Transaction Confirmed’ at the top, once the transaction is successful.

You can also view your bridged tokens in your wallet by going back to the ‘Wallet’ home page.

Select the ‘Network’ dropdown menu and select ‘Optimism’.

Click on your colorful account card to view your wallet holdings.

You should see that your bridged tokens are now in your Optimism wallet. In this case our ETH was bridged over to Optimism as native ETH. You’re now ready to swap!
